If you’re looking for a great place to get outside, this lovely little hike is a wonderful place to take the whole family.
Located by Augusta, Kansas, this easy hike will bring you past waterfalls, through trees that provide dappled shade, and a lovely lake.
The waterfalls are actually pretty close to the start of the trail, so if this is your destination you won’t have far to go!
They are lovely multi-tiered falls that provide a pretty scene for you to relax near. Pack a picnic and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area around you while the kids splash in the water.
If you want to continue on, the trail is well maintained.
If it’s been raining a lot it can get muddy, but for the most part, it's an easy trail that’s nicely packed down. There’s plenty of signs to follow, and the trail is well marked.
After the waterfalls, you’ll notice the rest of the trail follows along the lake.
You’ll be treated to spectacular views no matter the time of day you hike. Sunrise and sunset are both beautiful times to be on the trail.
Keep your eyes peeled for the wildlife that you’ll see right off the trail.
Expect to glimpse waterfowl, and also beautiful plants and flowers that line the trail. The entire trail is a 4.4 mile loop.
The trail is mostly flat, with only 62 feet of elevation gain throughout the entire trail.
This is also a popular spot for mountain bikers, so be aware of cyclists on the trail. Bring your dog with you as well, as pups are encouraged to hike with you, although they must stay on leash.
If you’re headed here to take this spectacular hike, there is a daily $8.00 use fee for parking.
If you’re a resident, you can pay $50.00 for an entire seasons’ pass, and enjoy this spot all summer long. You can stay cool in this lovely recreation area during the hottest parts of the season!
