With Rocks Up To 27-Feet In Diameter, You Can’t Pass Up A Visit To Rock City Park In Kansas
There are many destinations scattered around the Sunflower State that will quickly stop you in your tracks. These day trip destinations in Kansas are not only beautiful and unique in this wonderful state, but there is also something for everyone to enjoy. Rock City Park, located in Minneapolis, Kansas, is one of these exceptional day trip destinations. Young and old will love to spend all day exploring this fascinating little area in Kansas.
Rock City Park is a small five-acre park but it features some enormous sights.
This park is home to more than 200 Dakota Sandstone concretions.
Concretions are essentially large masses of a mineral. They take shape as the mineral collects around a pebble, bone, fossil, etc. Concretions are usually much harder than rocks.
As you explore Rock City Park, you’ll get to explore and climb on these incredible Dakota Sandstone concretions. Some of these concretions are as large as 27-feet in diameter.
In fact, Rock City Park claims to be the only place in the world with concretions of this enormous size.
Not only are the concretions of all sizes, but they take all shapes as well. In fact, some of the concretions look like items we know today such as doughnuts.
You are welcome to climb all around the rocks so make sure to bring excellent climbing shoes.
Also, add to your packing list a picnic lunch. You can sit on the grass or on a picnic table in this beautiful park and enjoy the scenery as you eat your meal.
Before you leave, stop by the gift shop for some hand-crafted items and other remarkable goods. This is a day trip in Kansas you will want to remember.
