As you enter the park, you’ll notice its small size. Mushroom Rock State Park is only 5 acres.
However, what this state park lacks in size, it makes up in beauty. Mushroom Rock State Park is certainly a sight to behold. The park features several incredible and rare rock formations.
These rocks are created from sandstone, sedimentary rock, and natural cement. They are believed to be from the Cretaceous Period, which was 144 million to 66 million years ago. Decades ago, these rocks were popular meeting places for Native Americans and pioneers.
Mushroom Rock State Park receives its name due to the large rocks that look like giant mushrooms.
An easy 0.2-mile trail will take you to many of the fascinating rock formations. Make sure you bring a camera as you won’t find scenery like this anywhere else in the Sunflower State.
