9 Destinations Everyone In Kansas Needs To Visit This Summer
Summer is starting to be here more every day, and as temperatures rise and kids are out of school, there’s more time to spend outdoors. Now you’ve got the time (and good weather) to take a weekend away, go camping, or just try an activity you haven’t before. Whatever free time you’ve got to spare, why not use some towards these 9 great places to hang out this summer?
1. Wichita Botanica Gardens
The botanical gardens here in Wichita are a magical sight year-round, but even more so when the flowers are in full bloom and the trees are green with life. They've also got events running through the summer, if you're looking for something more interesting than greenery for the kids.
2. Keeper Of The Plains
The Keeper is a great spot for morning walks and sunset visits, especially since they light the bonfire-sized torches around the keeper every night during the summer. Plus, it's got loads of information about local Native cultures.
3. Dodge City
Front Street and all of Boot Hill are super fun for the kids, especially if they love the old west. Dodge is home to a couple really tasty restaurants, as well as information for history lovers everywhere.
4. Quivira National Wildlife Refuge
If you're all about natural Kansas scenery and wildlife, this is the spot for you! Kansas has plenty of preserved lands, but this one's a hit during the summer when the wildlife is running all over the place.
5. Great Wolf Lodge
Kansas City's Great Wolf Lodge is a great spot to get away from home for a weekend while also giving the kids a great vacation option as well. The rooms are comfy, and there's neverending activities to try!
Abilene is another town like Dodge that's embraced it's rich history and is willing to share it with anyone who asks. If you visit during one of the role-play days, you'll find yourself smiling, and enjoying a taste of the simpler life. (Also, the restaurants here are amazing!)
7. Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure
Salina's got a great option for animal lovers at this interactive museum/zoo combo. Here you can learn lots about the world's animals while you and the kids play fun games and check out live animals!
8. Wilson Lake
Wilson Lake is a great destination for camping, fishing, boating, and swimming, so what else do you need? Grab your campfire gear and head on down for a weekend in nature.
