Stay Away From Iowa’s Most Haunted Street After Dark Or You May Be Sorry
Iowa may not be the first state that you think of when it comes to haunted attractions, but we assure you that we’re home to spooky locations that will send shivers down your spine. You may remember reading about the
haunting history of Interstate 80, but there’s another road in the Hawkeye State that you may want to avoid after dark in Des Moines County.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
Just several miles north of Burlington is Stony Hollow Road, a route that many choose to avoid driving down after dark.
Local legend says that a young woman from the 1800s named Lucinda was planning to meet her fiancé at the bluffs along Stony Hollow Road so they could elope.
But like so many other haunting stories, Lucinda's lover never showed up, breaking her heart and driving her to throw herself off of the cliff.
Some parts of this story vary depending on who you ask in town, but many people tell the tale that the reason Lucinda's finance never showed up to meet her was because his horse drawn wagon had gotten stuck in the mud. A small detail that makes the story even more upsetting.
Another thing you'll also hear people say is that Lucinda had lived in a farmhouse on the road that to this day remains abandoned because people say it's cursed. Yikes!
Now those who are daring enough to travel along Stony Hollow Road at night report seeing the silhouette of a young woman that is believed to be Lucinda.
Different people have reported different experiences when it comes to what happens when you drive down this haunted road. Some say that the woman they've witnessed haunting the road was seen covered in blood, while others have reported their cars malfunctioning near where she jumped to her death.
As if things weren't already creepy enough, it gets worse. Apparently, if you go out to the cliff where Lucinda took her last breath and you say her name three times, she'll appear right before your eyes! If Lucinda leaves a rose at your feet, you'll want to start crossing everything off of your bucket list as soon as possible because it reportedly means that you only have 24 hours to live. This is one ghost we have no interest in meeting!
