Iowa's leaves are just beginning to turn, and within a few weeks, the whole state will light up with the beautiful colors of fall. One of the best places to catch a glimpse of the foliage is in Madrid, at Ledges State Park. This popular state park is home to miles and miles of trails - but many of them are short loops or brief out and backs, making this park accessible to anyone with a sense of adventure.
Ledges State Park in Madrid, Iowa is home to several short trails that will take you on an autumn adventure to remember.
Two of the most popular trails take you to the beautiful view from Inspiration Point - either the Canyon Road trail, or Table Rock Trail.
Both trails are less than 2 miles and either offer a loop, or an out-and-back option. The trails in the area offer plenty of opportunity for improvising - so explore that side trail that looks enticing!You can find trail maps and directions right here.
Iowa's fall foliage is expected to peak soon, and mid-to-late October is the perfect time to plan a hike in Ledges State Park.

If you miss peak fall foliage, you'll want to check out the Lost Lake Trail.
During spring, summer, and early fall, much of this trail is shaded by tree cover. It's a great way to escape the heat, but a lot of otherwise beautiful views are blocked.
When the leaves hit the ground, you'll be treated to better views of the park's gorgeous water features.
