Situated in west-central Indiana, Pine Hills Nature Preserve is a historic area that every nature loving Hoosier should visit right away.

Dedicated in 1969, this was the first of the state's nature preserves, and it was made so due to its many natural features.

It's a great place to take a journey any time of the year.

One of the most prominent and interesting is this giant honeycomb rock formation. It is actually one of the final destinations on this exciting 2.7-mile out-and-back trail.

This section of the trail is part of an old creek bed and the pockets in the rock formation are believed to be left from algae deposits.

The sandstone that hardened around the algae has since rotted away. What is left is the rock that is resistant to weather wearing.

It is truly a unique site to see these fabulous rock formations. Be sure to bring your camera so you can capture the history and wonder that exists here.
