Go SCUBA Diving When You’re Done Hiking Waterfall Trails At France Park In Indiana
Nestled in a little place called Logansport in north-central Indiana is a park that seems to be a paradise all year round. During the winter, it becomes something of a snowy, icy wonderland, and during the warmer months, it’s a multi-faced diamond – an endless buffet of things to see and do. France Park in Indiana is a wonderful, underrated place that we feel might just be the next biggest thing for families to enjoy.
At first, France Park appears to be like many parks around the Hoosier State.
Once upon a time, this area was a limestone quarry. Eventually, natural spring water began seeping into the area, creating the lake we see today. As the water rose, mining equipment, vehicles, and more were submerged.
The eventual result? The lake at France Park is an excellent place for avid SCUBA divers.
Diving is offered on weekends at the park; divers enjoy crisp, clear water, interesting sights to see and wreckage to explore, and the occasional spotting of one of the absolutely enormous fish that call the lake home (and by enormous, we mean it - there's at least one 7-foot-long sturgeon in there).
Elzbek Lake is waterfall-fed, and taking hikes up to the falls is an incredibly popular pastime within the park's grounds.
The park offers several different, well-marked trails. If one were to take each of them, they would encounter woods, woodlands, plains, and even impressive cliffs, which are quite unusual for Indiana landscapes.
France Park offers up more than 200 campsites; some are primitive and others are modern with water and power.
Primitive campsites are just $18 per night per tent (with a maximum of two tents). Modern electric camping is $25 per night (with a two-night minimum on weekends). There's also a primitive cabin available for a reasonable $45 per night, with a five-night maximum stay. Primitive campsites are first-come, first-serve, but reservations for modern sites can be made by phone or in person.
Also available onsite is some great fishing; the lake is just 7 to 8 feet deep, but that doesn't mean it's not filled with fish to catch!
Oh, and one (or two) more thing(s): there are also frisbee golf and miniature golf. Miniature golf is just $3 extra on top of the $5 admission fee to the park for balls and clubs. Upon returning the clubs, you'll get a dollar back for each.
One thing is for sure: there are way too many things to do at France Park in Indiana to just hang out for a single day.
Make an entire weekend (or longer) out of it; no matter what time of year you visit, there are things to do and events to attend.
