If you’re looking for an Indiana winter getaway, you can’t do much better than the enchanting small town of Lawrenceburg, in the southeastern corner of the state. You don’t have to take our word for it, though - hit the road and find out for yourself.
Known as “Whiskey City” because of its history as a rye distilling center, Lawrenceburg is also a charming Ohio River town that embraces winter just a little more firmly than other towns in the Hoosier State.
When you arrive in town, take the edge off winter with dinner and by sampling some of the regional wares at Proof 124 Table and Tavern.
From November to early January, winter visitors will find Lawrenceburg decked to the nines for the holiday season.
Lawrenceburg Civic Park, in particular, is lighted and decorated for the season. Frequent holiday events occur during November and December.
Downtown and Oldtown Lawrenceburg also get in on the decorating action.
Many lights are left up well into winter.
The Winter Wonderland Ice Skating Rink is open from November to January for your skating pleasure.
There’s even a fire pit to keep your hands warm on particularly cold days.
Lawrenceburg’s biggest winter draw, though, is most likely Perfect North Slopes, which is located just outside of town.
It’s the biggest winter sports park in Indiana.
Skiers and snowboarders, alike, flock to Perfect North for its almost two dozen runs and three terrain parks - all of which are served by up to seven chairlifts and tows.
If you prefer to attack the vertical sitting down, Perfect North has your back. Its massive tubing park can serve up to 20 lanes.
What’s more, just a short drive from Lawrenceburg, you’ll find Indiana’s second-largest state park, Versailles State Park.
Check out the iconic Busching Covered Bridge on your way. But once in the park, enjoy a winter hike (or snowshoe) along the miles of trails.
You’ll definitely find plenty to keep yourself busy during a winter visit to Lawrenceburg. But if you still need more to do, pay a visit to the Hollywood Casino and Hotel along the riverfront in downtown Lawrenceburg. You’ll find everything you’d expect in a casino, along with dining, bars, and entertainment.
Have you had a chance to visit Lawrenceburg in the winter? What other small Indiana towns would be perfect for a winter getaway?
