In honor of the hundreds of firefighters and paramedics who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, there is a firehouse-themed restaurant in Illinois in the small town of Dwight that you have to check out. Memorials for those who lost their lives due to the 9/11 attacks appear across the country, but none are as soul-comforting (or delicious) at this one.

Station 343 is a beautiful eatery opened by locals Pete and Joy Meister in 2012. It is located just off Route 66 in a historical building in downtown Dwight, which is a tiny town with a population of about 4,000 people.
The building was built in 1881 and still has its original brick walls, wood floors, and rafters. The interior is rustic with reclaimed wood and other upcycled decor. There is even a vintage 1917 Seagrave fire truck on-site that was once used by the Pontiac Illinois Fire Department.
This gorgeous historical building has been home to several other business over the past century before becoming a firehouse-themed restaurant, including a clothing store and a general store.
Station 343 was opened in order to honor the 343 firefighters and paramedics who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. It also honors those who have and still do serve our communities as firefighters, paramedics, and police.
Reservations to dine in here are highly recommended as it's one of the best places in town to eat or grab a drink. It has a full bar and a generous list of signature cocktails, beer, and wine.
You could also start your meal with appetizers like candied bacon, potato skins, nachos, chili, chicken tenders, and much more.
This firehouse-themed restaurant is known for its homemade comfort food. Signature favorites include steak and potatoes, lobster mac and cheese, ribs, and pot roast.
Patrons also enjoy salads, seafood, pizza, pasta, burgers, and several types of sandwiches that you'll crave for weeks afterwards. Everything is always made fresh to order.
