It's that time of year when the air becomes crisp and leaves begin to rust and tarnish. Everyone craves apples, pumpkin, and harvest festivals. 1. Shades of Autumn Festival (September 9 - October 29, 2017)
Located at 3709 W Miller Road in McHenry, Strade's Farm hosts a fantastic harvest celebration. It features hayrides, pumpkin patches, a petting zoo, and a pumpkin cannon. Prices for admission vary depending on age. Regardless, most come for the apple cider donuts and other amazing fall goodies.
2. Harvest Day at Garfield Park Conservatory (September 16, 2017)
Located at 300 N Central Park Avenue in East Garfield Park, this festival celebrates urban farmers who care for bees, goats, and a plethora of organic fruits and vegetables. Guests meet animals, learn how to compote, and rediscover pioneer living.
3. Homewood Fall Fest (September 16, 2017)
Taking place each year on Martin Avenue in Hickory to Ridge Roads in Homewood, this festival is free and very popular. Guests visit for horse-drawn wagon rides, pumpkin patches, pony rides, and gourmet fall eats.
4. Long Grove Apple Festival (September 22-24, 2017)
For an apple pie eating contest, live entertainment, and more, check out this fun fair! It costs $5 for admission, but it is free for children 12 years and younger. It takes place at 308 Old McHenry Road in Long Grove.
5. Fall Fest at Lincoln Park Zoo (September 29 - October 29, 2017)
This is one of the city's most anticipated harvest festivals! It takes place at 2001 N Clark Street in Lincoln Park and admission is free. Visitors enjoy rides, entertainment, a corn maze, a hay mountain, a Ferris wheel, hay wagon rides, and more.
6. Cornucopia Fall Fest at Eugene Field (September 30, 2017)
This festival is free and takes place at 5100 N Ridgeway Avenue in Albany Park. It features fun for kids, including pony rides, a petting zoo, and a pumpkin patch. There are also food trucks and craft vendors.
7. Fulton Market Harvest Festival (September 30 - October 1, 2017)
Enjoy fresh food, cooking demos, live music, and craft beers at this wonderful autumn celebration. It is located in the Fulton Market District around the Near West Side; tickets are $20 presale and $30 at the door.
8. Lincoln Square Apple Fest (September 30 - October 1, 2017)
Located on Lincoln Avenue between Lawrence & Eastwood in Lincoln Square, the Apple Fest has a suggested donation of $5 to enter this fair. It is filled with dozens of vendors selling apple goodies, pies, donuts, and cider, as well as craft booths and live entertainment.
9. Autumn Fall Harvest Festival at Heritage Farm (October 1, 2017)
Guests pay $5 for admission to this festival, though children three years old and younger free. It takes place at 201 S Plum Grove Road in Schaumburg and features 19th century games, crafts, music, and food galore! The roasted corn and taffy apples are amazing!
10. St. Charles Scarecrow Fest (October 6-8, 2017)
This free festival takes place on Route 64 & the Fox River in St. Charles. Guests enjoy a craft show, petting zoo, and carnival, as well as over 50 handmade scarecrows!
