There's a historic building in Urbana, Illinois that is home to one of the best brunch spots in the state. This little-known cafe is all about fresh food, and it even grows its own garden to prove it. Locals can't get enough of the food at this excellent eatery. The Courier Cafe in Central Illinois has been making news since 1980. It is famous for its breakfasts, burgers, and a lovely dining area that will make you feel right at home.
The first building ever erected in Urbana was built on this spot around 1837. The land was turned over to the owner of the Courier Newspaper in 1916. The paper changed hands in 1934 before going out of business in 1979.
From the moment you step inside this casual, homey eatery, you'll be greeted by a warm and comforting atmosphere as well as a friendly staff. You get to take a break from the world when you dine here.
Courier Urban Gardens was started in 2015 to stock the restaurant with fresh, seasonal ingredients that are incorporated into menu items. Guests are free to wonder this garden of tomatoes, leafy greens, and other veggies. There is even a beehive on the roof that allows for fresh honey in the summer.
Known for the best brunch items, this restaurant has six kinds of omelets, a variety of toppings and add-ins for pancakes and French toast, as well as a myriad of hearty morning meals like steak and eggs, breakfast sandwiches, and corned beef hash.
Breakfast is served until 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and until noon on weekends.
Stay for lunch or dinner to enjoy one of the restaurant's famous hamburgers. You'll also find a plethora of different sandwiches and sides. Dinner entrees include fish tacos, lasagna, salmon, steak, and broiled pork tenderloin.
Dessert at the Courier Cafe is truly something special for which you'll want to save room. Milkshakes, floats, and special sundaes abound. Toppings like banana, brownies, pineapple, hot fudge, and more make each one better than the next.
