Swan Valley is a tiny town with a population of roughly 200 people. Located off of Highway 26, it's merely known as a brief stop for road trippers on the way to somewhere else. However, this small community just happens to be hiding some of the most unique ice cream in the world.
Located in town is a charming little store called Rainey Creek Country Store. It's actually a gas station and convenience store but don't be fooled. You'll get a lot more than gas here. This place is world famous for their ice cream, and for good reason.
Walk inside the store and you'll spot a small but notable ice cream bar with an assortment of tasty flavors. On a hot summer day, this will be a welcome sight! But what makes this store's ice cream "world famous"?
Swan Valley's claim to fame is their distinctly square-shaped ice cream. This may seem like a strange way of serving ice cream, but many people find it incredibly unique and a nice change of pace to your regular ol' round ice cream cones.
The store use a local ice cream company called Farr's which is based out of Idaho Falls. They offer over 20 flavors so you're sure to come across something that appeals to you. A special scoop is used to serve the ice cream which gives it the one-of-a-kind square shape.
The square ice cream is so popular that the tiny shop often sees thousands of people in a single day. On the 4th of July, the shop usually expects crowds of over 15,000 people. If you come on a holiday weekend, you may have to wait in line. But it will be
so worth it.
If you want the full experience, we suggest trying a cone of their most popular flavor: Huckleberry! This is a true Idaho treat that you won't be able to pass up.
Rainey Creek Country Store is located at 2997 Swan Valley Hwy, Swan Valley, ID 83449. They are open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Saturday and 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sunday.
