The Night Tour At Idaho’s Old Penitentiary Will Show You The Dark Side Of Its History
The Gem State is filled to the brim with fascinating historic destinations, but the Old Idaho Penitentiary in Boise may just be king of them all. Not only is it one of the most well-preserved 19th century buildings to be found in the state, but it also boasts an endless array of crazy stories and tales associated with it. Touring this old prison always feels like a walk back in time but the night tours especially will show you this historic destination in a whole new light. Get to know the penitentiary’s dark side when you embark on this limited tour, and live to tell the tale!
Originally opened in 1872, the Old Idaho Penitentiary is one of the most historic destinations in the state. Featuring incredibly preserved buildings, special exhibits, and a variety of events and programs, a visit to the Old Pen is always a fantastic experience.
If you're a history-loving Idaho resident, chances are you've already paid this fascinating destination a visit. However, touring it at night is an entirely different experience, and you can do just that on November 8 and November 15.
Night tours of this historic prison will be given on those two nights from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. During this time, Old Pen staff and volunteers will be giving historical site tours at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
Alternatively, you can opt for a self-guided tour and explore this 150-year-old site at your own pace. Just be sure to bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. Oh, and you must be at least 13 years or older due to mature content.
Walking through the site's numerous historic buildings always feels a little creepy, but there's something about experiencing them at nighttime that's even creepier. These night tours set a perfectly spooky atmosphere for this one-of-a-kind experience!
