Ahoy, matey! The Hawaiian Islands are home to countless incredible restaurants, from underrated hole in the wall eateries to unique themed restaurants. This one-of-a-kind eatery found on Hawaii Island is the best of both worlds: a pirate-themed establishment hidden in an unassuming strip mall. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Welcome to Privateer’s Cove, a Kailua-Kona watering hole that serves up a variety of dishes from around the world — in true privateer style — in a quirky, pirate-themed setting.
With island-inspired tablecloths and netting strung up across the ceiling as well as maps and vintage art lining the walls, this small establishment is full of quirky pirate-themed details.
The menu changes weekly, so you never know what exactly you’ll get, but you might enjoy comfort food classics like truffle macaroni and cheese and chicken alfredo or more innovative offerings like duck breast with a raspberry Burre Blanc sauce with vegetable fried rice, shrimp stuffed with crab over a shrimp and vegetable orzo cooked in coconut red curry, or a South Australian rack of lamb.
If you want to enjoy a nice glass of wine or beer with your meal, you'll have to bring your own. Privateer's Cove doesn't have a liquor license, but the BYOB eatery doesn't charge a cork fee.
There you have it, mateys. Privateer's Cove might just be one of Hawaii's most unique restaurants, and one visit will surely prove that there is still a kid in all of us.
Privateer’s Cove is located at 74-5565 Luhia St., Kailua-Kona, HI 96740, and is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They are closed Sunday. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
If dinner isn’t enough for your pirate soul, you’ll want to book your tour aboard this incredible pirate ship docked along the Oahu coast.
