Don’t you just love those hiking trails that take you to a place that is unlike any other in the world? We recently wrote about the secret garden hike that takes you to a bamboo forest, but this particular trail is special in an entirely different way. What has developed a bit of cult following in Georgia, check out this out-of-this-world art trail.
Constitution Lakes Park is a known nature preserve a few miles outside of downtown Atlanta, with a wild and wacky trail filled with art.
Upon entering the trail, the natural beauty and unique pockets of flora, you wouldn’t expect what’s to come further down the way.
Doll’s Head Trail is a whimsical, and sometimes downright strange art trail in Georgia that has grown into much of a cult classic.
The trail was created over a decade ago by a local carpenter named Joel Slaton, who dedicated the artwork to found trash within the preserve.
Slaton encouraged visitors to create their own art along the trail with what was found, but put in place a few rules in order to preserve the sanctity of the area.
For instance, hikers and artists should not be bringing in trash in order to make art.
The entire trail project is dedicated to re-purposing trash into something strange yet beautiful, but only what is found in the area.
Artists are also encouraged not to make anything dangerous out of their artwork—no glass bottles or sharp edges—in order to keep the trail as kid friendly as possible.
There is a running theme along this art trail which is where it gets its name—more doll’s heads than anything else.
Since the key to the unique art is that it must be "found", it’s a wonder where all these doll parts came from.
But perhaps what makes this odd yet fascinatingly unique trail is that it helped clean up a nature preserve that was seemingly otherwise neglected…
…and allowed creativity and artistry to flourish, no matter the outcome.
The address for Doll’s Head Trail is 1305 South River Industrial Blvd SE, Constitution Lakes Park, Atlanta, GA. This fun, crazy and whimsical trail is open during daylight hours for all to enjoy. Guests are encouraged to follow the trail rules and be respectful of the art.
