It can be unfortunately easy to overlook our rural gems in Georgia. After all, we have so many wonderful urban areas that tend to steal the spotlight. We’ve gathered up a few great spots in the rural middle portion of the state. These places may not get as much hype as Atlanta or Savannah, but they’re an absolute delight and a reminder of the Peach State’s rural heritage! If you’re looking for something to do, you’ve found it – embark upon this wonderfully fun road trip in Georgia you’re sure to love.
You'll start your trip in the small town of Douglas. This charming town has a population of around 10,000 people and is home to the WWII Flight Training Museum. The museum is located at what was once the 63rd Army Air Forces Contract Pilot School, one of dozens of such pilot schools in the country founded during World War II. The Army quickly needed trained pilots, and the schools worked to get soldiers in and out as efficiently as possible.

Your next stop is another museum, this one the immersive Georgia Museum of Agriculture. This farm is so neat and really captures the experience of life on a 19th-century farm in Georgia. You'll see a working blacksmith's shop, tons of artifacts, and plenty more. It's the perfect way to learn about the Peach State's agricultural history.
By this point on your trip, you're likely starting to get hungry, so your next stop will be the delightful 57 Diner. This wonderful spot in Unadilla is a no-frills joint that serves up home cooking in old-fashioned surroundings. It feels like a step back in time to simpler days!
4. Music Memories Museum: 215 W Main St, Swainsboro, GA 30401

The Music Memories Museum is tucked away inside Swainsboro's Main Street Market Antiques, a wonderful stop in its own right. This is a must-visit for music fans. Admission is free and it's a huge collection of memorabilia from tons of country and pop singers over the last 60 years. You'll find clothing worn by Elvis Presley, James Brown, Patsy Cline, and plenty more.
Your final stop is Vidalia's Onion Museum. This is another great free museum in Georgia that focuses on the city's claim to fame: the nationally famous sweet onion variety that shares the city's name. The museum features a 1,300-square-foot building, plus a miniature garden where you can see an onion being grown. You can explore the exhibits yourself or take a guided tour.
