With so many great trails in Georgia, it can be hard to make a to-do list of ones you need to check out. So many of them have spectacular scenery! One of our favorite trails in Columbus is the Heath Lake Loop that circles around the little Lake Heath, a reservoir that's mostly known as a great fishing spot for locals. It's a fairly easy trail that won't take all day; it's just under two miles for the whole loop. But it's a pleasant little trail that will get your blood pumping and let you enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings!
Since this is such an easy trail, it's a great choice for novice hikers who aren't up for the difficulty of a trail through the woods. It's also great if you're looking for a kid-friendly hike in Georgia.
The trail is perfect for nature lovers: you'll see all kinds of plants, plus birds and other critters, so keep your eyes peeled.
When you want some exercise outside of the house but don't want to spend all day on the trail, the Heath Lake Loop is the perfect choice.
About a quarter of the trail provides lake views, with the rest heading through wooded areas and behind homes.
You never get too far from civilization, so if you're prone to getting lost and are afraid of going out deep into the woods, this is a great option!
The trail's extensive trees mean there's plenty of shade, so you won't get too hot in the warmer months.
Note that sometimes after heavy rainfall, the trail can flood and portions of the walkway are inaccessible.
You'll find a nearby bathroom, playground, and picnic tables, adding convenience to the trail.
The Heath Lake Loop is one of our favorite hidden trails to escape the hustle and bustle of the city! Have you ever traversed this little trail? Share your experiences in the comments.
