Drive-in movie theaters in Georgia are making a comeback and we couldn’t be more thrilled. But to be honest, beyond a few new drive-in theaters popping up here and there, Georgia has already had quite a few drive-ins that have been alive and kicking for years now, and maybe it’s time we shine a light on them. Honor the history and nostalgia that drive-in theaters provide while also still enjoying a weekend filled with film.

Facebook Plaza Atlanta

The Plaza Theater is not a known drive-in, but actually one of Atlanta’s oldest theaters. Since the pandemic hit, Plaza Theater pivoted its business model and started hosting drive-in theater experiences in their parking lot! Facebook Tiger Drive-In Theater

The Tiger Drive-In was originally opened back in the 1950s, closed for a period of time, and eventually reopened in 2004. Open weekends from Friday to Sunday, you can spend an entire evening enjoying a unique cinema experience. Come early when the grill opens and feast before the film starts!

Facebook Starlight Drive-In Theater & Flea Market

The Starlight Drive-In in Atlanta has six separate screens, each with a different double-feature experience. You can find new films playing at this drive-in, but also keep an eye out for the cult classics that pop up here and there. Also, make sure the concession stand is open for your showing because if it is closed, you are able to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages!

Jesup is one of the oldest drive-in theaters in the entire state, opening back in the 1940s. The uniforms worn by the car-hops (usually high school students working solely for tips) are very 1950s and will take you back in time. The Swan Drive-In opened up back in the 1950s in Blue Ridge, Georgia. This was huge for the town since there was no television in the city! Today, movies play every day of the week with double features on Friday and Saturday. Just make sure when you visit Swan you bring cash. This is a cash-only drive-in with no ATM on-site!
