When it comes to unique cuisine in Georgia, Cajun food doesn't get quite the love it deserves. We've got plenty of spots with Mexican food, Italian food, and even African food, but it isn't always easy to find a place with authentic food that tastes like what you'd pick up on a trip to New Orleans. Lovers of Cajun food in Georgia, rejoice! We've found a great spot that serves up amazingly authentic Cajun soul food that will make you feel like you traveled straight to NOLA. JAG's Cafe in Gainesville has owners that are from New Orleans and they bring a taste of the bayou to the Peach State.
Gainesville is a city of about 45,000 in Hall County, right along Lake Lanier. You'll find the unassuming JAG's Cafe tucked away in a strip mall. It's a tiny little spot, but it's packing big flavor.
The interior is plain but homey. This is the type of place where you immediately feel like family, even if it's your first visit.
There are plenty of Mardi Gras and New Orleans decorations everywhere.
You'll find a lot of UGA fans in this area, but JAG's Cafe is so good you might find yourself rooting for the LSU Tigers after a visit here!
The menu is filled with classic Cajun soul food delights. Fried fish, sausage, seafood gumbo, red beans and rice - you can get it all here.
Don't skip out on the sides. There are so many delicious ones here. The collard greens and macaroni and cheese are especially wonderful.
Make sure you save room for dessert. Red velvet cake, key lime cake, and 7Up pound cake are all available, and each is the perfect complement to a meal.
