Owen Wister's famous novel, "The Virginian," has ties to The Occidental Hotel and its restaurant. In fact, the restaurant is named after the book. The building for The Albany was constructed around 1900 and was originally The Hotel Becker which included Le Barron's Restaurant. This hotel, restaurant and grounds have seen the likes of Tommy Dorsey, Lawrence Welk and Louis Armstrong. The dance hall and pavilion at the hotel brought the era of the 'Big Bands' to Elk Mountain. 6. Historic Hotel Greybull

The Historic Hotel Greybull was built during Wyoming's oil and gas boom between 1914 and 1918, The Greybull State Bank was located on the corner and you can find the original bank vault currently in the hotel lobby. The Great Depression caused the closing of the bank so the hotel and other retailers took over. The restaurant was later added in the basement as an illicit underground operation. You can still see the underground tunnel entrances that were used to elude the authorities.
