1. Mountain View Hotel & Cafe
The Mountain View Historic Hotel & Cafe was built over a hundred years ago in 1907. This historical gem originally featured 20 guest rooms and a dining room. The "improved system of plumbing" or bathrooms were located in the stables. It opened just in time for the arrival of the Laramie Plains, Hahn's Peak Railroad and was dedicated in a "golden spike" ceremony. Today, guests can still experience the original warmth and western charm. Mountain View Hotel & Café is located at 2747 Wyoming 130 in Centennial.
2. The Virginian
Owen Wister's famous novel, "The Virginian," has ties to The Occidental Hotel and its restaurant. In fact, the restaurant is named after the book. Wister based his fictional characters in the book on the guests and visitors at The Occidental. Many people believe that the shoot-out at the climax of the story took place in front of The Occidental Hotel. Here, you can enjoy succulent steaks and seafood while you relive history. The Virginian is located inside The Occidental Hotel at 10 North Main Street in Buffalo.
3. Irma Restaurant & Grill
There's a lot of history in and around this hotel and restaurant. Buffalo Bill held his try-outs for Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show next to the hotel. Buffalo Bill named the hotel after his daughter and built it to appeal to European nobility who were hunting big game in the area, Yellowstone sightseers, tourists and businessmen. You can enjoy the Irma's famous prime rib while reflecting on Buffalo Bill who was one of the most well known Americans during his time and who had a huge impact on the American West. The restaurant is located right at the Irma Hotel at 1192 Sheridan Avenue in Cody.
4. The Albany
The building for The Albany was constructed around 1900 and was originally The Hotel Becker which included Le Barron's Restaurant. The Albany Restaurant has been around for over 100 years and has witnessed Cheyenne's history throughout the years. The current restaurant has been owned by the same family since 1942. Today, you can enjoy a wide selection of food in a warm old world atmosphere. The Albany Restaurant is located at 1506 Capitol Avenue in Cheyenne.
5. The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel Restaurant
This hotel, restaurant and grounds have seen the likes of Tommy Dorsey, Lawrence Welk and Louis Armstrong. The dance hall and pavilion at the hotel brought the era of the 'Big Bands' to Elk Mountain. Today, the restaurant located inside the hotel, features fine dining with American and European gourmet style cuisine prepared by their Cordon Bleu Chef and owner. The historic Elk Mountain Hotel Restaurant is located at 102 East Main Street in Elk Mountain.
6. Historic Hotel Greybull
The Historic Hotel Greybull was built during Wyoming's oil and gas boom between 1914 and 1918, The Greybull State Bank was located on the corner and you can find the original bank vault currently in the hotel lobby. The Great Depression caused the closing of the bank so the hotel and other retailers took over. The restaurant was later added in the basement as an illicit underground operation. You can still see the underground tunnel entrances that were used to elude the authorities. You won't want to escape through the basement now because you'll want to stay and enjoy steak, seafood and pasta at the downstairs restaurant. Speakeasy is located downstairs in the Historic Hotel Greybull at 600 Greybull Avenue in Greybull, Wyoming.
7. Miners And Stockman's Steakhouse
You can eat a succulent steak and enjoy a drink from Wyoming's oldest bar, all in the same building. The restaurant offers the best steaks around, an extensive wine list and 35 different types of whiskey. The bar was hand-carved back in 1862. Miners and Stockman's Steakhouse is located at 608 Main Street in Hartville.
