There’s a drink in Door County that's like none other. The Bayside Coffee is a drink that sounds like something you might order for breakfast, but you'll probably want to save this one for the evening – it packs a big punch as well as a few flames. The drink has been around for a while and it has become something of an icon – step into this Fish Creek pub and see what the buzz is all about. Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll experience at the Bayside.
The Bayside Tavern is tucked in the heart of the picturesque village of Fish Creek. It’s been around for decades and if you’ve driven North up the peninsula on Highway 42, you’ve passed the Bayside.
It’s a place worth stopping in. The cozy décor has changed very little over the years and it’s popular with locals, seasonal residents, off-duty workers, and tourists. It’s a very friendly atmosphere and there’s always room for one more at the Bayside.
The Bayside has some really good food. Its burger was voted best in Door County, which is no small accolade, as there are scores of places serving burgers in the county. It also serves up some classic cheese curds with ranch, a tasty pizza, and traditional weekend specials like local whitefish cakes and grilled Norwegian salmon.
But we’re really here for the drinks. The Bayside has a solid beer menu and it makes a mean Old Fashioned, but the most requested drink is the Bayside Coffee.
The bartender uses a special kit to create the coffee because it’s that elaborate. There’s a lot involved, including pours of Gosling Black Seal 151, Grand Marnier, Baileys, and Kahlua, as well as a selection of spices.
And, of course, there are flames - a lot of big flames! A pour of coffee puts out the fire and the whole concoction is finished with a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy - just be sure to have a designated driver!
The Bayside Tavern is open daily and it’s open all year. Plenty of street parking is available nearby, although on busy summer days you may have to stroll for a couple of blocks. If you enjoy sipping cocktails in interesting bars, here are some iconic spots you simply have to drink in.
