This Haunting Washington Bar Used To Be A Mortuary, And You’ll Want To Visit

If you've explored Seattle's Pike Place Market, you've probably seen signs for Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub, which is located in the Post Alley. You may have even enjoyed a pint and some Irish Pub Stew. But what many Washingtonians aren't aware of is the fact that this place used to be a mortuary... and, yes, it's haunted.

Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub opened over three decades ago, but the building's history goes back much further.

In the early 1900s, this was the Butterworth & Sons Mortuary.

The entire building was used to store the dead for decades.

The pub entrance was an entrance for delivering bodies. Workers would put the bodies into an elevator and take them to the third floor to process them for burial.

These days, Kells is a lively eatery where you can enjoy a hearty Irish meal and live music...

... but it's also packed with paranormal activity.

Bartenders, guests, and even ghost hunters all claim to have seen and heard spooky things.

Mirrors have shattered, glasses have broken unexpectedly, and apparitions have been spotted.

Since there were numerous disease epidemics in Seattle during the time the mortuary was open, thousands and thousands of bodies came through.

There are two ghosts that make regular appearances at Kells.

The first is a little girl with long red hair who is usually spotted during the day, when kids are allowed inside the pub. In the evenings, you might see Charlie, a man wearing a derby hat who manifests in the Guinness mirror, then disappears.

Kells is open daily from 11:30 a.m. until 2 a.m.
