Every Bagel Lover Needs to Visit Hey Bagel in Seattle, Washington

Hungry for a bagel? This shop in Seattle's University Village offers some of the best in the city.

I will eat bagels any time of the day, and I especially love them plain or with a tasty schmear. While there are some exceptional bagel shops scattered around Seattle, there is one place that is so good that it isn’t uncommon for it to sell out — Hey Bagel. Believe me, you’ll want to try it.

Located in Seattle’s University Village, Hey Bagel must be on your dining bucket list. No matter the time of day you visit, your taste buds will be in for a treat. The bagels served at this shop are baked fresh. As soon as you arrive, you’ll want to bite into one and then purchase a dozen more to take home.

Hey Bagel's current owner, Andrew, wanted to create a place that would bring a smile to everyone who walked through the door.

And he accomplished his goal.

Bagels are typically not fancy, but when made to perfection, like those at this bagel shop, they make every customer happy. Hey Bagel specializes in hot, fresh bagels and delicious schmear. There are no sandwiches or toasted bagel options — just fresh, simple, and perfect bagels.

Oh … and flavorful. Hey Bagel’s menu features a handful of bagel flavors such as everything, garlic, salted poppy, plain, and blueberry clove, which is available on Sundays.

And to add even more excitement, there are a variety of schmear, or cream cheese, options to choose from, such as scallions, raspberry curry and hot hone, chili crisp, and more. You can purchase your schmear in 8-ounce or 2-ounce containers.

When you visit this Seattle shop, you can purchase individual bagels, but I recommend you purchase several — you’ll certainly want more than one. You can choose from a half-dozen, baker’s dozen, or even three bagels and 8 ounces of schmear.

And while you’ll certainly want to try the bagels, don’t forget about the bialys on the menu as well. Bialys are baked yeast rolls that are more flat and circular than a bagel. These delicious goods originate from Poland and feature a small hole on top filled with items such as caramelized onion and gruyere cheese, fresno chili pepper and cheese, etc.

Hey Bagel does not offer online ordering and currently has a limit of two dozen bagels per customer. However, you’ll be grateful for these limitations as they improve your chances of tasting one of these delicious creations. Hey Bagel often sells out, and we strongly recommend visiting first thing in the morning.

Hey Bagel may not be the largest bagel shop in Seattle but it’s certainly one of the best. After one bite, you may have just found your new favorite place to eat in the Emerald City. Visit the Hey Bagel website for more information regarding its menu, hours, etc.
