This Is the Best Buffet in Virginia, Known for Its Mongolian Grill and Sushi Conveyor Belt

The best buffet for Mongolian Barbecue in Virginia and so much more, Peking Restaurant is one of Williamsburg's best hidden gems.

There are only a few places I make a point of taking a trip to every year, and Williamsburg, Virginia is one of them. Not only is it a great place to meet a very important person in my life, but it's a place I've absolutely fallen in love with. Williamsburg is my favorite tourist hotspot in the US—it's the perfect combo of big-scale attractions, rich history, kitschy charm, and hidden gems. Not to mention, it has an amazing dining scene!

There are several spots here that I make sure to visit every year, including dinner-splurge seafood buffet Captain George's and the BBQ hut Trapper's Smokehouse within Busch Gardens, but there's only one spot that's my guaranteed first spot as soon as I get off the Amtrak. That would be Peking Restaurant, a unique hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall. Not only is it the best buffet for Mongolian Barbecue in Virginia, but it's incredibly affordable—and a must-visit for any lovers of Chinese food.

Peking isn't the easiest restaurant to find in Williamsburg. It's located in a nondescript strip mall, hidden from the main retail drag and tucked away behind a pirate-themed mini-golf course that looks like a lot of fun (although it wasn't open when I visited on a Thursday in December).

Walk a few minutes to the back of the strip mall, and you'll find Peking: a unique old-school Asian buffet that goes all out with its decor. You can even see the colorful lion statues guarding the entryway, and trust me, they put as much effort into the food as they do into the decor.

Peking is a massive establishment and has frequently won local awards for the best buffet in the region. The classic Chinese-American-style decor harkens back to the 1970s in the best way, and the dining room is regularly full. While an a la carte and take-out menu are available, I was here for the buffet!

The main part of the buffet offers all the favorites like a flavorful beef and broccoli stir-fry and crispy sweet-and-sour chicken, as well as some more authentic treats like five-spice chicken or spicy shrimp. There's likely to be something for everyone here.

However, the big draw for me here has to be the Mongolian barbecue. In this unique style of dining, you assemble a stir-fry from raw ingredients—vegetables, frozen raw meat, and a wide assortment of sauces and toppings—and hand your plate off to a skilled chef to be cooked on a massive grill.

This is one of my favorite things to eat in all of Virginia. I always go heavy on the meat and noodles, particularly the lean beef, and top it with a generous helping of the mild but flavorful Mongolian sauce. But the best part of this feature is that your meal can be anything you want it to be.

And that's just scratching the surface. If you head to the back, you'll find a sushi conveyor belt offering sushi rolls! Dinner adds a custom noodle soup bar and a Thai section. I come here every time I'm in Virginia, and discover something new every visit.

Have you ever dined at Peking Restaurant before? If not, the best buffet for Mongolian Barbecue in Virginia is waiting, so tell a dining buddy about this article and discover this unique buffet for yourself! You can see the full menu on the Peking Restaurant website. Peking is only a five-minute walk from another of the best hidden gems in Williamsburg, Kielbasa—a hole-in-the-wall European deli with an amazing selection. And while you're in town, I highly recommend a visit to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, especially if you're in town for the incredible Christmas Town event with one of the world's best light displays.
