This Restaurant In South Dakota Used To Be A Firehouse And You’ll Want To Visit

When it comes to unique places to eat in South Dakota, we have quite a few. You can eat in a train car and at one point you could even eat underground in a coal mine. There is also a place where you can enjoy a meal in a setting where there was once a team of brave people ready to jump into action at any moment and save the day, and that place is the Firehouse Brewing Co. in Rapid City.

The building was built in 1915 and is registered as a National Historic site

This true, original firehouse was built in Rapid City just over 100 years ago and served the community. In 1991, it had long since been retired from that life and was transformed into the restaurant and brewery that it is today.

Much of the original firehouse memorabilia is still there, including the pole that the firefighters slid down when duty called

Ladders, hoses, uniform patches, and plenty of other firefighting objects fill the building to remember its roots and pay homage to the people who put their lives on the line to serve Rapid City.

It is South Dakota's oldest operating brewery and also an amazing restaurant

You can enjoy your meal indoors on the first or second floor, or out on the patio

The original firehouse was built so that the living quarters for the firefighters were on the second floor with the firetrucks on the first floor. Now you can eat on either level or if the weather is particularly nice, you can eat outside on their beautiful patio. They feature live music, too, to make the perfect evening out.
