Since Deadwood is one of South Dakota's oldest towns, it should come as no surprise that the longest continually operating bar is in Deadwood as well. The history of Buffalo Bodega is fascinating, and this historic gem is definitely worth a visit.

On March 6, 1877, Mike Russell arrived in Deadwood, determined to open a successful saloon in a town that already had 17 drinking establishments.

He opened the Buffalo Bar and quickly made a name for himself in Deadwood. Over the next 100 years, the building welcomed everyone from prostitutes to tourists, and it's still standing today.

Now known as the Buffalo Bodega Gaming Complex, this place is the oldest bar in South Dakota.

It's located right in the middle of the action in Deadwood at 658 Main Street, and you can spend hours here.
