The German Diner In South Carolina Where You’ll Find All Sorts Of Authentic Eats

Horst Gasthaus in North Myrtle Beach offers an authentic Bavarian dining experience with traditional German food, decor, and entertainment.

Most South Carolinians know that Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are a melting pot for entertainment, attractions, and shopping. But many may not realize these two cities are also home to a vast selection of authentic international cuisines. And while most visitors to the Palmetto State expect to see seafood after seafood restaurant on the Grand Strand, they're also delighted to change it up a bit - as are the locals! When it comes to authentic German food, you won't find anything closer to the 'real' thing found at Horst Gasthaus in North Myrtle Beach without boarding an airplane to Germany.

Located only steps off of Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach, Horst Gasthaus doles out a convincing rendition of Bavarian food, decor, beer, and entertainment.

Once you find the restaurant (it's located behind another restaurant) you'll be delighted with the German feel of the outside of the building. But just wait.

Inside is a legitimate Bavarian eatery!

From the carefully chosen colors and wall decor right down to the blue and white checked table covers, Horst Gasthaus will make you feel like you're IN Germany. Even the servers wear traditional dirndls.

The traditional Bavarian menu is enough to make any lover of German food cry in sheer delight.

From Bratwurst, Knackwurst, and Bauernwurst to Bavarian Goulash and Sauerbraten served with traditional dumplings and red cabbage, the food is expertly procured and prepared.

If you're not sure what a menu item is, then the servers are always willing to help.

Some items, like the Kassler Rippchen (smoked, breaded pork chop) lend themselves to those who aren't accustomed to traditional German food.

And other items on the menu just look so irresistibly delicious you may decide to come back for more, once you see what other people have ordered.

The German potato pancakes are a favorite for an appetizer, and don't pass up the chance to try their Goulash Soup!

Most visitors who appreciate a good German beer, simply rave about the selection at Horst Gasthaus.

Although the beer seen here is a pretty common one, this Bavarian restaurant has a selection of uncommon German beers you just don't see anywhere else.

Another thing you don't see at just any restaurant?

An accordian player! Most evening meals are accompanied by authentic German music. It doesn't get better than that!

Ready to check it out in person?

Horst Gasthaus can be a bit dicey to locate if you're not using a GPS. In reality, it's only steps from Highway 17, but it's located behind another restaurant. So expect to take a short ride for about 100 feet onto a side street before you see the outside that looks like this photo (only with a TON of cars in the parking lot).

You just don't find authentic German food quite like the delicious meals found at Horst Gasthaus German Restaurant in North Myrtle Beach. Have you had the pleasure of checking it out?
