You won't find many restaurants in South Carolina that will turn your head as much as Bantam Chef in Chesnee. From an unusual collection of 1950s memorabilia to a menu that's filled with nostalgic comfort foods, this family-owned restaurant is worthy of a day trip. Let's take a look:
As you pass through Chesnee (population, 950), it's hard to miss the Bantam Chef.
An eclectic array of figures adorn the top of the building. But that's nothing compared to what you'll find inside.
Bantam Chef first opened here in Chesnee in 1964.
At that time a smaller location only had seating for 40 people.
Then, 25 years later in 1989, the eatery built a larger structure that now offers seating for 180.
The new Bantam Chef building also added space for a showroom for some of owner David Walker's private collection of 1950s memorabilia.
Stepping into the Bantam Chef is like taking a walk down memory lane.
But memorabilia alone isn't what keeps locals and out-of-town folks coming back again and again.
The food speaks for itself here... and it's every bit as delicious as it looks.
Bantam Chef is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week and serves up hearty portions at throw-back prices.
And the food is top quality.
Every item on your plate is made to order and the meat and seafood are never frozen.
First-timers can tell almost in an instant that the restaurant is family-owned and run.
The quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff make all the difference in the world.
This year, especially, foodie road trips are trending.
So gas up the car and spend some quality time together with loved ones as you make your way to downtown Chesnee for a nostaligic trip down memory lane at Bantam Chef.
