San Francisco is full of foodies who know that brunch is by far the best meal of the day. There are a variety of great brunch spots that have been popular for years as well as a few notable new kids on the block. Here are some of our favorites!
1. Mama’s On Washington Square: 1701 Stockton Street
A North Beach institution with lines even on weekdays. This place is worth the wait for the pancakes, scrambles, benedicts, and homemade berry jam.
2. Nopa: 560 Divisadero Street
Nopa is becoming a classic brunch spot. It is popular for many good reasons. Everything's top quality for brunch at Nopa. Unlike your typical brunch place, Nopa has more sophistication to your typical brunch spot. Order the French toast!
3. Outerlands: 4001 Judah Street
Venture out to Ocean Beach for an unforgettable brunch. Big favorites here include the Dutch pancakes, the signature Eggs in Jail, and pictured above the squash & feta open faced sandwich.
4. Elite Cafe: 2049 Fillmore Street
A great place for mid day drinks and comfort food in the Haight area. Expect amazing deviled eggs or eggs benedict depending on your preference.
5. Ella's Restaurant: 500 Presidio Avenue
This is a classic brunch
This is a classic brunch spot with a more authentic ambience. The popular dishes here are avocado on brioche, the strawberry ricotta pancakes, and fried egg sandwich. Good for drinks too!
6. Zadie: 941 Cole Street
Eggs Benedict are a favorite here, so order the Divorcée eggs Benedict and you'll be blown away. Zazie’s service is warm and intimate, and the food, most importantly, is marvelous.
7. Brenda's French Soul Food: 652 Polk Street
A one of a kind spot in the middle of the city. Brenda's Soul Food offers what you expect like crawfish beignets and even better French Toast of course. This is another classic spot that will not disappoint.
8. AQ Restaurant & Bar: 1085 Mission Street
This is not a well known brunch spot, but AQ has a lot to offer in terms of breakfast fare. Expect creative dishes, crepes, donuts, soft scrambled eggs and French toast. Give this place a chance!
9. Dottie's True Blue Cafe: 28 6th Street
Dottie's Cafe is adored because of the touches they add like jalapeno jelly, healthy portions, and savory flavors. A popular dish is the lamb-fennel sausage, and another hit is the cornmeal-blueberry pancakes that are extra large!
10. Plow: 1299 18th Street
Head to Potrero Hill for a menu accented with Nueske bacon and double fried crispy potatoes. Not as well known as other spots, but very popular. A big hit is the lemon ricotta pancakes. Yum!
11. Belga: 2000 Union Street
Another hidden gem classic brunch items. Seek out the pork schnitzel with braised cabbage, spätzle, and sunny eggs for maximum satisfaction.
12. Sears: 439 Powell Street
Sears Fine Food opened in 1938, and some have claimed it feels like taking a step back in time. Sears is known for the ‘world famous 18 Swedish pancakes' as well as great omelets. A classic brunch spot with pizzazz!
