As fall colors start to sweep through Rhode Island, our thoughts turn to all of our favorite autumn traditions. And while some seasonal celebrations won't look quite the same this year, we can still have a beautiful season. On that note, we highly recommend planning at least one visit to the Hard-Pressed Cider Company for some hand-crafted cider and delicious donuts.
You'll find the Hard-Pressed Cider Company at Windmist Farm n Jamestown, where fresh cider has been served since its 2011 beginnings.
That's six years after the current owner, Robert Swanson, started experimenting with his uncle's old cider press.
The farm is open to the public from Labor Day to Thanksgiving.
Due to current conditions, capacity is more limited than usual and social distancing is expected.
Cider-making is no easy task.
The cider here has only one ingredient (an abundance of apples), so you'll want to drink it as soon as possible (both because it's delicious and because it doesn't have preservatives).
Unfortunately there will not be any live pressing this year, nor will there be tables to sit on.
However, the farm is still open for guests to come enjoy some cider and donuts.
There's really no way to describe these melt-in-your-mouth donuts.
They are incredibly tasty, and in the past, people have driven from all over New England to enjoy them.
Recently, Cider Slushies were added to the menu.
And somehow, they taste even better than they look.
The Hard-Pressed Cider Company is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
And there's still plenty of time left in the season to eat all the donuts your heart desires.
