Newport Vineyard sits on a majestic property in Middletown.
And since its beginnings nearly 30 years ago, it has become a local icon and a favorite day-trip destination.
John and Paul Nunes took over the vineyard operations in 1995, but their family farming history goes back much further — to 1917.
That's when Francisco Nunes, John and Paul’s great-grandfather, acquired the stonewall-enclosed Bailey Farm on Wyatt Road. And today, John and Paul are determined to continue his legacy.
First things first: the wine here is quite good.
With more than 50 acres of vines spread across the historically preserved farmland, it's no secret that Newport Vineyards has quite the portfolio.
These days, Newport Vineyards is much more than a place to go wine tasting — in fact, they aren't even offering traditional tastings at the bar just yet.
Since guests can enjoy both food and vino on the beautiful outdoor deck, most choose to stay and drink their wine there.
Hungry? Just order from the Taproot menu.
From small snacks and shared bites like charcuterie to larger, heartier entrees, you'll find what you're craving here.
The menu here is pretty casual, but everything on it is exceptional.
Executive Chef Andy Teixeira brings two decades of experience to the proverbial table, and he does not disappoint.
Currently, Newport Vineyard is open daily at 11 a.m. (closing hours vary).
