There's something special about visiting an old general store. These nostalgic shops connect us to the past in a tangible and meaningful way -- and they're quite delightful to peruse, too. Up in Lostine, Oregon, M. Crow & Company General Store is a century-old general store that's a true town treasure. Stop in for a pizza and a pint at this all-purpose shop, where you're sure to discover all sorts of amazing finds.
In Wallowa County, Oregon, Lostine is the kind of sleepy little town that, were it in Texas, you'd probably see a tumbleweed or two rolling down Main Street.
This town of just over 300 is the kind of place where it's not uncommon to see chickens clucking around downtown.
It's the kind of place where a century-old general store is a town cornerstone.
This is M. Crow & Company General Store, which opened in 1907. It was run by the original owners, the Crow family, for over a century. In 2012, the Crows sold the store to Wallowa Valley native, Tyler Hays.
The Hays and the Crow families were homesteaders in the Wallowa valley in the late 1800s, and the store has been a town fixture since its earliest days. This is a tried-and-true, beloved and long-standing local business.
Inside, you'll find a little bit of everything, from housewares and hardware...
...to penny candy and grocery items.
M. Crow even has its own line of handmade denim! Talk about a jack of all trades...
The service here is second to none -- friendly and helpful; the kind of personal experience you just don't find much anymore.
Pony up to the counter, and order a pizza and a beer.
Check out that old-school rotary phone on the wall, by the way!
You might not expect to find killer pizza in a general store in the middle of Oregon, but M. Crow & Company is full of surprises.
Stop in and peruse this century-old general store. Grab a bite and sit outside, enjoying a good, old-fashioned afternoon at this longstanding Oregon hub.
Have you visited M. Crow before? This old-fashioned general store is absolutely worth seeking out, and Lostine might well be the most charming little town in Oregon!
