Visit North Dakota’s First Cidery, Cottonwood Cider House, This Season

Visit North Dakota's first cidery, Cottonwood Cider House, to experience fresh, home-grown apple cider.

North Dakota's one and only cidery farm is currently in its busiest season, and you can visit it for yourself. As fall quickly approaches, the apple orchard on this farm is busy being harvested and transformed into a delicious cider. There is no other place in the entire state you can visit quite like it, so make sure to check it out this upcoming season. Here's what you need to know:

Head out to a quaint, beautiful farm a little way outside of the tiny town of Ayr, North Dakota. Though there are only 17 people who live in that town and its vicinity, many more than that will be visiting this particular farm in the upcoming season.

Cottonwood Cider House was North Dakota's very first cidery. Owners Dan and Stacey started their farm out as an apple orchard in 2012 and later became the state's first cider producers in 2017.

With over a hundred trees in their orchard, all of their cider is made with home-grown fruits. There are over 40 apple tree varieties here, from the classics like Honeycrisp to an 18th-century French apple called Michelin.

These apple varieties come together to make delicious, fresh cider in various types and flavors. All the apples are harvested and processed right there on the farm.

When you visit for a tour, you can see the beauty of the farm as well as see the place where the magic happens.

They're busy all of late summer and fall apple picking, pressing, and getting their cider brews going. You can stop by their tasting room to sample some or order a bottle or two for home. Certain North Dakota restaurants also serve the cider at their establishments.

With cider this fresh and this good, made from North Dakota grown apples, you'll be in for a fun treat when you visit the Cottonwood Cider House.

You can schedule a tour by calling them at (701)-866-9913. Their tasting room is open on the weekends from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday and 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday. Visit their website to learn more about their ciders and how to order some.
