Nevada has many upscale restaurants for serious foodies, but for most of us, there is nothing more delicious than freshly prepared comfort food, and what is more comforting that a sandwich? Not to mention, it's a versatile meal that can take so many forms, eaten at any meal of the day, and yet be a relatively low cost meal (especially if you can wrap half and take it home!) Nevada is loaded with delicious sandwich spots and here are 11 to start with.
1. The Goodwich, Las Vegas (Downtown)
The Goodwich is located in the downtown area of Las Vegas at 900 South Las Vegas Boulevard.
The Goodwich's philosophy from their website is "STACKED-RITE" and all of their sandwiches are loaded with ingredients with unique names and recipes. One of the customers' favorites is the Salmon Thunder: hot smoked salmon, boursin, pickled onions, capers, and Es Soss. You can have any of their sandwiches toasted with olive oil or untoasted. A side of curry-vinegar chips is a perfect pairing.
2. Full Belly Deli, Reno
The Full Belly Deli has two locations. The Nevada location is at 3064 Mill Street in Reno and the other is located nearby in Truckee, CA.
This delightful deli serves unique and traditional sandwich recipes with a twist. Daily specials are also posted on their website. A local favorite is the Dirka Dirka which has corned beef, pastrami, jalapeno coleslaw, yellow mustard, Swiss cheese, and pickles. The recommended bread choice is their very own jalapeno cheese bread.
3. Philadelphia Restaurant & Sandwich Company, Gardnerville
Philadelphia Restaurant & Sandwich Company can be found at 1281 Kimmerling Road in Gardnerville.
Philadelphia Restaurant & Sandwich Company serves Italian cuisine with everything from sandiwches to full traditional entrees. Of course, with their name and Philadelphian heritage, it's a given they serve a mean Philadelphia Cheese Steak. For something different, try their Italian Roast Pork and Broccoli Rabe sandwich, which consists of thin-sliced Italian roast pork warmed in pork jus, topped with garlic-roasted broccoli rabe, roasted red pepper, and provolone. Yumm!
4. Baguette Cafe, Las Vegas (Spring Valley)
Located in the Centra Point Retail Shops in Spring Valley area of Las Vegas at 8359 West Sunset Road.
This restaurant situated in a retail shop area serves breakfast and lunch only with a French influence. An excellent example is the Blue Brie Panini. Enjoy a freshly baked bread topped with seasoned white-meat chicken, blue and Brie cheeses and grilled. Delicious served with a side salad! Bon appétit
5. Little City Grille, Boulder City
The Little City Grille is located in Boulder City at 825 Nevada Highway.
This charming small restaurant with a garden patio is a lovely spot for any meal of the day. They serve a variety of American style dishes and of course, sandwiches! Their French Dip and hand cut Sweet Potato Fries is served warm by their friendly staff. Their Philly Cheese Steak is also a big local favorite.
6. The Sandwich Factory, Reno
The Sandwich Factory is located at 500 South Meadows Parkway in Reno, inside the Jackson's Gas Station.
You wouldn't think you'd find an amazing sandwich in a small restaurant inside of a gas station. But you'd be wrong! At the Sandwich Factory you can build your own sandwich, with 11 different bread options, including Dutch Crunch, Jalapeno Cheddar and Olive Provolone. You can also order one of their favorites, such as the Californian with turkey, sprouts and avocado on jalapeño cheddar bread. If you're in a hurry, you can also order online and pick your sandwich up for an excellent meal on the go.
7. Pho King Phonomenal, Henderson
Pho King Ponomenal is located at 35 East Basic Road in Henderson.
Pho King Phonomenal is a brand new restaurant, having just opened in Henderson in January 2017. They serve Thai food with a twist, including pho, ramen, drunk noodles, fried pork belly and some Asian style sandwiches and sliders. A featured sandwich is The Big Wang with Thai style Bahn Mi, seasoned beef strips, cucumbers, thin sliced jalapeno, their very own "Wang Sauce," "Slam Style" slaw and cllantro on top of a crunchy French baguette. Finish it off with a scoop of cereal milk flavored ice cream!
8. The Star Hotel, Elko
The Star Hotel is located in Elko at 246 Silver Street.
The Star Hotel specializes in Basque cuisine, served family style. The historic building went up in 1910 and there's a real "old world" European sense to the decor and environment. If you like a big hearty "cowboy" meal, try their New York Steak Sandwich with a New York strip steak grilled to order served on a French roll. You can add cheese and mushrooms for an extra garnish. You won't leave hungry after having one of these!
9. Cafe Girasole, Gardnerville
Cafe Girasole is located at 1483 Highway 395 in Gardnerville.
Cafe Girasole serves sandwich, soups and salads with locally grown and organic produce. They also have many vegetarian and gluten free options. One of their well-loved sandwiches is the vegetarian option, The Iron Mike, which is made on squaw bread with peanut butter, avocado, Havarti, cucumber, sunflower seeds, carrot, sprouts, spring mix, red onion, and the Cafe's Marionberry vinaigrette.
10. Johnnie’s Deli & Spirits (Fallon)
Johnnie’s Deli & Spirits is located in Fallon at 715 South Taylor Street.
This unassuming exterior of this traditional deli shouldn't deter you from a visit! The friendly staff members serve a delicious array of deli items including amazing sandwiches. They use Boar's Head meats and cheeses for all of their sandwiches. For a mouthwatering option, try the Classic Italian and don't forget to add on jalapenos and pepperoncinis for an extra kick.
11. Yosh’s Unique Deli, Reno (South)
Yosh's Unique Deli can be found in the South Reno area at 85 Foothill Drive.
This family-owned and "old world" style deli features all the traditional deli favorites: soups, sandwiches, salads, and lots of imported items for sale from Europe. They also bake their own Dutch crunch rolls on site, smoke meats in-house and focus on using local and organic ingredients. An excellent sandwich choice is the Cinque Terre with roasted turkey, prosciutto, aioli, tomato bruschetta, lettuce, and provolone cheese, served on your choice of bread and cold or cooked on a panini grill.
