Ah, the elusive perfect grilled cheese sandwich. For many of us, this toasty, gooey treat holds memories of childhood and chilly winter afternoons. It's surprisingly hard to find a really wonderful, memorable grilled cheese in a restaurant, however. This may look like an extremely unlikely place to find the perfect grilled cheese. It is, in fact, the Omaha Conservancy of Music - a music school.

But inside, some surprising treats await you. Accelerando Coffee House occupies a small part of this space, and it's where you'll find what has been called the best grilled cheese sandwich in Nebraska.

The coffee house is known as an "original hipster" hangout - because it's not an easy place to find.

Accelerando used to be located at 108th and Grover, but in the first part of 2016 it moved into its new space in the Music Conservatory at 70th and Cass. It's not exactly the kind of place that you stumble upon by accident.

While their menu is coffee, tea, and smoothie-based, they also offer a few delicious and memorable food items.

The grilled cheese is consistently named as the best of the food offerings. Not because the other foods are lacking anything, though (seriously, try the bubble waffles). It's because the grilled cheese really is that fantastic.

The standard grilled cheese comes with cheddar and havarti on a slightly tart, springy sourdough.

A small side of tomato soup serves as the perfect dipping sauce.

If you're looking for a little twist, the pizza version of the grilled cheese has mozzarella and provolone along with pepperoni.

It's served with a side of marinara sauce to complete the pizza-like experience.

There is nothing not to love about Accelerando's grilled cheese. It's got the crunchy (but not too hard!) bread, the flavorful and melty cheese, the smooth and slightly salty taste, and that indescribable something that brings back so many delicious childhood memories. There's a good reason it's been called the best grilled cheese in the state.
