In an era where the fast food industry is dominated by those famous golden arches, Mississippi residents can rejoice in a regional option that got its start right here in the Magnolia State.
The very first Bumpers Drive-In was opened in Brookhaven, Mississippi back in 1983 by S.L. Sethi, a Delta State University professor. Sethi had previously owned a Sonic franchise, and wanted to create his own fast food option.
In a time when frozen hamburger patties were common for these types of businesses, Bumpers Drive-In sought to break the pattern by offering high-quality, fresh food.
Since the first location in 1983, Bumpers Drive-In has expanded to a total of 34 locations in Mississippi and one in Tennessee. Mostly located in small towns.
40 years later, and they’re still at it.
Serving up all your favorite fast foods with quality ingredients.
All of your favorites make an appearance on the menu, like these hand-battered onion rings...
...and these hand-cut fries smothered in chili and cheese.
But what separates Bumpers from the pack (aside from the quality, fresh ingredients) are the signature menu items that Bumper is known for.
Pictured above is the Philly Cheesesteak, just one of the many signature creations you'll find at this regional restaurant in Mississippi. It's a fan favorite, for sure!
Be sure to save some room for dessert, because the desserts at Bumpers are dangerously delicious.
A burger and a milkshake is a classic duo, but you may want to step outside your comfort zone here! Both the hot fudge cake and the strawberry shortcake have a cult-like following. The sundaes are a home run, too.
Of course, you can always stick to one of the hand-mixed milkshakes. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
