The Mississippi Restaurant With Italian Roots That Date Back To The 1940s

Don't let the Atlantic Ocean stand between you and an authentic Italian meal. Believe it or not, you can get a taste of Italy right here in Mississippi at Serio’s Restaurant. A longtime favorite, it’s been doling out Italian classics since the 1940s.

Serio’s Restaurant is on Yalobusha Street in Greenwood.

Salvo Serio opened Serio’s Restaurant in 1943. It was initially located in a small building at the corner of Mississippi Avenue and Alabama Street in Greenwood.

Salvo came to the U.S. from Cefalu, Sicily. Using family recipes, his namesake restaurant quickly garnered a reputation for its authentic Italian fare.

Today, it’s owned by Salvo’s great nephew, who still uses the same recipes to produce some of the state’s best Italian food.

The meatball sandwich is the restaurant’s trademark dish – and has been since day one.

The pasta dishes are also a top-seller. There are lots of options, but the “legendary lasagna” is a must-try.

Over the years, the menu has grown quite a bit.

Now, in addition to traditional Italian cuisine, it features steaks, seafood, burgers, and more.

The restaurant has grown, too. Coming a long way from its modest beginnings, Serio’s Restaurant now boasts a full-service bar, fireside dining room, and private dining booths.

And outside, there’s patio dining and…a bocce ball court!
