The Coziest Holiday Pop-Up in Minneapolis is Hidden Inside a Supper Club
If you're looking for a festive way to ring in the holidays in Minnesota, head to Creekside Supper Club and Lounge in Minneapolis. Its Winter Wonder Bar is a holiday wonderland worthy of its own Christmas special.
I love a Midwestern supper club, but in a large metropolitan area like the Twin Cities, they're pretty rare. Cities just don't really give off supper club vibes—or vice versa. In the past, you had to get to the outer ring suburbs or even the exurbs before you'd run across one tucked alongside a narrow rural highway. That all changed in late 2021, though, when Creekside Supper Club and Lounge opened in south Minneapolis. Offering a Wisconsin-supper-style atmosphere and menu, Creekside delivers on vibe, food, and drinks. Even better, around the holidays, Creekside transforms from campy supper club to kitschy holiday pop-up—and its "Winter Wonder Bar" is something to behold. I was charmed; and you'll definitely want to add this jingle bar to your Minnesota holiday bucket list.
Walking up to the South Chicago Avenue location, you'll note the supper club's inviting holiday lights and festively frosted windows. When you see Santa peeping out of one of them, you'll know you're in for something special—and Creekside doesn't disappoint.
The waiting area, with its signature fountain and Johnson Outboard motor, is festooned in holiday finery, guarded by nutcrackers, the aforementioned Santa, and a joyously decorated Christmas tree. This, of course, is only the appetizer. Once you pass through the brick archway, you're in for a sensory feast worthy of Whoville.
Clearly, the staff followed a “more is more” philosophy in holiday décor. The supper club's ceiling has virtually disappeared behind layers of shimmering garland, cascading tinsel, and an intricate web of colorful lights. It's a visual cacophony that forces an involuntary smile, or perhaps even an “Ope!” moment that instantly causes the gray world outside to fade from your mind—like arriving in Oz or laying eyes on the inside of Wonka's factory. What sets Creekside's Winter Wonder Bar apart from other holiday pop-ups is its bedrock supper club identity. The festive finery doesn’t cover up Creekside’s soul; it amplifies it.
The restaurant is a venue that cultivates loud laughter and clinking glasses rather than reverential whispers. The menu rises to the occasion, blending Creekside’s year-round staples with seasonal flourishes. The elevated relish tray (with shrimp cocktail and cheese curds) and fluffy popovers feel even more festive when accompanied by one of the bar’s holiday cocktails. While the Wisconsin-style old-fashioned (brandy, sweet, with bitters, orange, and cherry) remains a perennial favorite, the season brings simpler, richer indulgences like house-made eggnog that tastes like liquid dessert—with a punch. The nog was a perfectly festive follow-up to my own bourbon old-fashioned.
If I have one wish for Christmas, it's that you hurry over to Creekside Supper Club in Minneapolis before they fold up the Winter Wonder Bar for the season on January 11, 2026. You'll have a jolly old time!
