The Dog-Friendly Brewery In Minnesota That Just Might Be Your New Favorite Hangout

Minnetonka’s Boom Island Brewing Company and Taproom is a dog-friendly brewery in Minnesota where the bartenders may be happier to see your fur baby than they are to see you. Either way, you’ll get to enjoy an awesome brew with your favorite wing dog!

Although named for an island in the Mississippi River, Boom Island’s taproom is now located in the western Twin Cities suburb of Minnetonka.

The taproom’s aesthetic is modern-industrial, with concrete floors, tile, and reclaimed wood all contributing to the vibe.

On any given day, the taproom serves well over a dozen brews, on tap and in the can.

I lean toward its hoppy IPAs, myself, like the Cosmic Gumbo or Fyn’s Fog, and like to keep a growler on hand at home.

Whether you’re going in to refill your growler or plan to stay a while - inside or on the patio - your pup is welcome.

Boom Island even offers a plush toy version of its Que Pasa Mexican lager for puppy patrons.

With a squeaker buried at its center, this is one of the favorite products among the brewery’s canine customers.

The brewery’s love for dogs doesn’t stop at simply welcoming them into the taproom.

One of Boom Island’s neighbors is a local dog rescue non-profit, Second Hand Hounds. Boom Island regularly partners with Second Hand Hounds to host “puppy parties” and other adoption events. Cute puppies in need of a home surrounded by dog-lovers lubricated with beer - what could go wrong? Not a thing!

You’ll also find plenty of non-dog-oriented events, like live music and trivia nights, at the brewery.

But your pup is still welcome to attend! We always try to have a canine helper on our trivia team - in case we get a question about squirrels or fire hydrants.

On your way to Boom Island, burn off some of your dog’s energy with a walk through charming and historic downtown Hopkins - it’s just a few minutes away from the brewery. It’ll help you both relax a little more once you get to the brewery.
