There are so many things to love about living in Salem, Massachusetts. The city is so rich in American history; the scenic waterfront views are spectacular, and of course, it is an absolute blast here at Halloween. Salem is also filled with museums, fantastic restaurants, and lots of fun activities. However, when Friday night rolls around, there is even more to love about the Witch City. A stop at a hidden gem called Goodnight Fatty is key to experiencing a fabulous weekend in town!
Located in a historic downtown carriage house, tucked between the Salem Common and the Salem Witch Museum, you will find some of the best cookies on the planet. But these aren’t just any cookies. These are out-of-this-world, next-level treats called fatties. And let me tell you, they are amazing.
Goodnight Fatty is one of my family’s favorite guilty pleasures. The fatties may not be healthy, but they are divine.
Fatties are only available on weekend evenings and Sunday afternoons. Just three cookies are featured at a time. The flavors change from week to week and are kept secret until the shop reveals them on its website before opening for the weekend.
A few weeks ago, my husband and I stopped in for an after-dinner treat. The fatty choices that weekend were Banana Pudding, Ice Cream Cake, and Chocolate Disaster. We couldn’t pick just one, so we decided to order all three.
We typically pair our fatties with a side of delicious soft-serve ice cream. However, because we were eating three cookies between the two of us, we decided to forgo the extra calories.
Our fatties were served warm and fresh out of the oven. They were rich and gooey and absolutely delicious. We brought them out to a courtyard table where we sat down and savored the goodness as we watched tourists stroll by.
We left with very full and happy stomachs!
If you think that the fun at Goodnight Fatty ends with the cookies, you are happily mistaken!
On Sunday mornings, the bakery transforms itself into a breakfast cafe called Good Morning Chubby. The coffee and signature chubbies (savory, spicy, and sweet hand-held treats) are always family favorites!
Have you stopped by for a late-night Fatty or early-morning Chubby? What flavor is your favorite? More information (including weekly flavors) can be found on the Goodnight Fatty website and Goodnight Fatty and Good Morning Chubby Facebook pages. More good eats in Salem include Flying Saucer Pizza and Ledger. And if you are looking for a nice place to stay in Salem, I suggest the historic (and possibly haunted) Hawthorne Hotel, located across the street from Goodnight Fatty.
