The Cozy Restaurant In Massachusetts That’s Perfect For An Intimate Dinner
For an intimate dinner in a cozy, historical setting, head to The Red Lion Tavern in Cohasset, Massachusetts.
Whether it's February when love is in the air, or a cold winter's day, this is the perfect time of year to get out and enjoy a cozy, intimate dinner with someone you love. If you are looking for a warm place with fantastic cuisine and a quaint atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with the Red Lion Tavern in Cohasset. It's one of the best date night restaurants in MA for romantic dining in New England.
The Red Lion Tavern is a cozy restaurant that serves fantastic New England fare. The tavern is located within the historic Red Lion Inn at Cohasset Village, which dates back to 1704! (Please don't confuse it with the Red Lion Inn and Restaurant in Stockbridge; however, that is another fantastic spot.)
Set on Cohasset's South Main Street inside the historic Red Lion Inn at Cohasset Village, which has been open since 1704 (that's over 320 years!), The Red Lion Tavern is simply charming. Rustic fireplaces and wood tables add to the cozy, warm ambiance of this special spot, perfect for an intimate dinner with your special person.
As one of the best cozy eateries in Massachusetts, this restaurant offers a variety of seating areas, including the main dining room, the Winter Garden Room, the pub area, and an outside patio. If you are looking to host a private gathering of up to 16 people, you can reserve the restaurant’s Yellow Room. This space is rustic and intimate, featuring an interesting historical element — a trap door in the middle of the floor that once connected to a tunnel leading to the harbor; it may have been part of the Underground Railroad.
The Red Lion Tavern not only has an incredible atmosphere, but it also serves up some fantastic meals. The restaurant is open for dinner and Sunday brunch. Favorite brunch choices include the Red Lion French Toast, Corned Beef Hash, and the Tavern Breakfast Burger. Pair any of these delectable meals with a mimosa, a make-your-own Bloody Mary, or a spiked coffee, and your day is off to a great start!
The dinner menu is just as delicious, featuring pasta dishes such as traditional Bolognese and butternut squash risotto, as well as fresh seafood, flatbreads, and flavorful steak and poultry options. The New England Pot Roast, Grilled Berkshire Pork Chop, and Baked New England Blue Cod all sound like excellent choices to me. There's even a lunch menu if you visit here during the day. The Tavern typically has special menus for holidays, including Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day.
When you are done with your meal, you can cozy up to the bar and enjoy some wine or a delicious cocktail. It is a great place to keep warm on a cold winter night. And if you visit on a Thursday evening, you can head over to “The Cave.” This special part of the tavern features live music and entertainment.
Have you had a warm, cozy meal at The Red Lion Tavern? If so, we would love to hear all about your experience. For up-to-date hours and menu selection, please visit The Red Lion Tavern website and The Red Lion Tavern Facebook page.
If your dinner is part of a longer trip to Cohasset, I suggest staying the night right at The Red Lion Inn Resort 1704. More cozy dining spots in Massachusetts include Champney’s Restaurant & Tavern in Deerfield and The Prairie Whale in Great Barrington. Bogie’s Place in Boston is also a delicious adults-only steak restaurant.
