Western Mass. is indisputably wonderful, so it's no surprise that one of the best bakeries ever is hiding in the hills of the Berkshires!
How good is this place? The bakery was named amongst the top 10 in the nation by Bon Appetit magazine, and Netflix actually featured the Berkshire Mountain Bakery in its new documentary series about the most amazing handcrafted eats around the world, Cooked. SAVEUR magazine has also named Berkshire Mountain Bakery as one of the best bakeries in the country.
What makes this place special is the almost unheard of way they make their bread. Read on to find out more.
The Berkshire Mountain Bakery is a dreamy and delicious bakery tucked away in the beautiful hills of western Massachusetts.
The warm, buttery scent of freshly-baked bread wafts out of this bakery and fills the air around the shop.
Inside, bakers are hard at work crafting some of the richest, most flavorful treats you've ever tasted.
Their specialty is sourdough, and they actually make it exactly how ancient breads were once made in Holland. It’s pretty much the only place in the country you can get this unique and mouthwatering bread!
What's their secret? The process starts with freshly milled flour, made right in the shop.
The bakery also ferments their grains, which maximizes the nutrients (and flavor). This process is totally unlike what you get with commercial white flour, which is highly processed and utterly changed from its original form.
The bakers at this farm have been making scrumptious breads for over 25 years, and you'll realize what the fuss is about as soon as you break open a steaming loaf.
They use their special flour in sweets too, like these amazing cookies.
Speaking of amazing, you need to try one of their "Take 'n' Bake" pizzas. Simply pop one in your oven at home for 5-7 minutes, and you'll have the easiest and most delicious pre-made dinner of your life.
But seriously, the bread here is to die for. Don't you dare leave without a warm bundle of bread.
You can get their products shipped to you if you don't live locally, but of course, fresh is always yummiest.
You can stop in anytime and try a fresh sample of their products. They also have gluten free items, so everyone can leave with a full belly.
The bakery recently opened a new Pittsfield location. They also participate in farmers markets during the summer season.
