Made From Scratch Every Day, Washington, Dc’s Most Over-The-Top Brunch Buffet Is My New Favorite Place
The best buffet in Washington DC is offered two days a week in a tony Georgetown restaurant, and it's a pure indulgent delight from beginning to end.
Ever since I was a kid, I've been in love with the idea of buffets. There was just something so exciting about a restaurant where you don't have to pick one entree and hope you like it - you can try a little bit of everything! There aren't as many buffets as there used to be, but those that have stuck around tend to be the best of the best. That's definitely the case for the best buffet in Washington DC - Founding Farmers Fishers Bakers, located in the Georgetown neighborhood. It's become a regular stop for me every time I'm in town to catch a concert at The Birchmere, my favorite local music venue.
Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers is a fast-growing local chain with seven locations in DC, Virginia, Maryland, and now Pennsylvania, but this is the signature location and one of only a few that offers the restaurant's famous brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays. A rich spread offering breakfast staples alongside high-quality meats and seafood and indulgent treats, it's both one of the best and one of the most surprisingly affordable elite buffets I've been to. This was my second visit to Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers, and this time, I was happy to be able to document it for Only in Your State.
Located only feet from the water, Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers is one of the true gems of Georgetown's dining scene. It's usually packed every Saturday and Sunday for its famous Brunch buffet - so I made sure to get there bright and early.
Inside, the restaurant is bright, airy, and welcoming. The quirky decor helps to add to the casual vibes - while the atmosphere is "smart casual," I didn't feel out of place at all in my travel clothes, having just gotten off an Amtrak an hour earlier.
While the buffet here isn't the largest, being located in a side annex of the roomy restaurant, appearances can be deceiving. They pack a lot of selections into a small space, and I knew it would take me several trips to get through all I wanted!
For my first go-around, I stuck to the "money items," taking a bit of each and seeing what I liked. These included roast beef, molasses-glazed ham, applewood-smoked bacon, chicken-apple sausage, cajun catfish, and my favorite item on the buffet—sweet-and-spicy apricot-glazed salmon.
But that's just the start - you can also dig into breakfast favorites like french toast, hash browns, pancakes, Mexican specialties, fried chicken, or seafood jambalaya. Most items are at the buffet, but several barnyard bites are brought to your table by roving waiters - including fried shrimp, breakfast pizza, and massive skillet cinnamon rolls.
For a drink, I stuck with the bottomless Arnold Palmer (sweet, tart, and delicious), but for those who want a stiffer drink, Founding Farmers offers a massive selection of brunch cocktails made with top-notch spirits.
Make sure to save room for dessert! The snacks-and-sweets counter was impressive, including house-made donuts and sweet-and-salty kettle corn served in a little fry basket.
Once you're full and happy, make sure to stop by the front counter one more time before you leave. Founding Farmers has recently introduced its own line of packaged chocolate treats, which make an amazing gift for a friend (or a snack for the ride home!).
Have you experienced the elite brunch buffet at Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers? If not, tell a friend and make plans to visit! You can see the menus at all the locations on the Founding Farmers website, and make sure to visit the Facebook page of this acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant for more mouthwatering pictures! If you need a place to stay in the area, I always choose the Embassy Suites by Hilton Crystal City. Not only is it a short ride from both The Birchmere and Founding Farmers, but it has roomy, comfortable suites and a bonus breakfast buffet!
