This Tiny Mexican Restaurant In Maine Serves More Than A Dozen Types Of Tacos

Okay. We'll start by acknowledging that seafood reigns supreme here in Maine. It's available just about everywhere and the freshness can't be beat by any other state in New England. We don't care which one...Maine's is better. But let's also acknowledge that we can't just sit around eating freshly caught lobster every day. Sometimes we need to branch out and when that happens we typically reach for a taco. Or four. The spot we're writing about today has so many options, you might want to reach for a few more.

You'll find Taco Trio in a small house-type building in South Portland.

We love the casual vibe that feels both laid back and festive at the same time.

But, let's be honest. What we love most are the tacos.

There are more than a dozen different combinations you can create using their 13 fillings.

Filling options include: Carne Asada, Vegetales Asados, Pollo Asado, Pollo con Mole, Carnitas, Chorizo, Champiñones, Pastor, Pescado, Pescado Chipotle, Espinaca & Champiñones, Camarones and Calabazas Asadas.

We love the chips that come loaded alongside the tacos.

But that might be a result of the homemade salsas that are made fresh every day.

They also have a weekly special that tends to be totally unique. We loved this "Taco de Camarones" that came with marinated shrimp grilled and topped with cabbage slaw, Chipotle mayo, and avocado.

They also make a mean torta on Torta Tuesday. This Mexican sandwich is filled with refried beans, a beer battered and deep-fried chicken cutlet, lettuce, tomato, avocado, red onions and Chipotle-mayo sauce.

Don't forget about the weekly margarita.

And, if you're not too full, leave with their delicious flan.
