The Pizza At This Delicious Maine Eatery Is Bigger Than The Table
Slab Sicilian Street Food in Portland, Maine offers uniquely large and delicious Sicilian-style pizzas.
We all know that Maine is known for some of the best food in both New England and the entire United States. Things like lobster, crab and other shellfish are often at the top of that list. But, any good Mainer knows that you can find just about any food you want in Vacationland. Our current favorite? Pizza! But, not just any pizza. The food at this Portland spot is so unique you'll need to visit a few times to wrap your head around just how big a slice actually is! This huge pizza in Maine is worth a trip to Portland.
You'll know you've arrived at Slab when you see the patio area full of people, and maybe even a live band performing. Unless it's winter. In that case you'll need to rely on the smell of incredible pizza to lure you inside.
Inside you'll find, what they call, a "unique spin on Sicilian street food."
The pizza here might look like others from far away...
But, one taste of their signature "slab" and you''ll realize that you're not dealing with a traditional pizza spot.
Their Sicilian pies are made of the doughiest dough you'll find and, best of all, they're absolutely gigantic!
And the old world style dough is mixed fresh by hand.
The Slab comes in three sizes. Choose from the 1 pound Hand Slab, the 4 pound Half Slab and the biggest of all...the 8 pound Full Slab.
The Full Slab is so big, it's served on two different boards and doesn't fit on a regular sized picnic table.
Eating it is a challenge, but it's a delicious challenge!
And, for those with specia diets, they've even got a pizza with vegan crust, topped with tapioca cheese.
If the idea of finishing a Slab is a bit too daunting, stick with their sandwich menu and get the muffuletta.
Or, the incredible meatball sandwich.
And then, enjoy a local beer on tap to make it the best day ever!
