The Outdoor Cafe In Maine That Is The Prettiest Place To Enjoy A Warm Afternoon

If there’s anything we love in the Pine Tree State, it’s our picturesque coasts, fresh and local food, and a good cup of coffee. We have a spectacular selection of cafes and coffee shops in Maine and one place that locals love to flock to for a cup of joe and a scenic view on a lovely afternoon is the Salt Cod Cafe on Orr’s Island.

If you’re looking for waterfront views, a scrumptious breakfast or a luscious lunch, and a hot cup of quality coffee, you can’t go wrong with the Salt Cod Cafe on Orr’s Island. During the warmer months, it’s the perfect place to enjoy the sun and scenery.

There is shaded outdoor seating where you can get breathtaking views of Harpswell Sound and watch the boats go by while seeing the sunlight glittering off the water.

The roots of this place began with Sylvanus Cushing Prince who established a general store here in 1845 when the primary industry on Orr’s Island was fishing. He created a market where local fishermen could sell their catch and tons of cod were processed, dried, and sold here.

His great-great-granddaughter, Alison Prince, opened the Salt Cod Cafe in 2004 at the very site where her ancestor’s general store once stood. It’s a must-stop for locals and tourists alike.

This place serves locally produced coffee and also sells lobster rolls and homemade scones that pair perfectly with every kind of roast. It’s a wonderful way to begin your adventures on Orr’s Island.

Since it’s in Maine, of course, it has to have lobster rolls and you won’t be disappointed in the slightest. There are also delicious sandwiches, bagels, chowder, wraps, hot dogs, and more.

The homemade scones are to die for with different flavors every day. Don’t these make your mouth water? There are also homemade pies like blueberry, raspberry, strawberry rhubarb, peach raspberry, and triple berry. What a way to start the day or have an afternoon summer treat.

Have you ever had the pleasure of sipping a refreshing cup of coffee at the Salt Cod Cafe on Orr’s Island? Do you have any other favorite outdoor cafes in Maine?
