For Easy No-Fuss Maine Food Check Out This Hard-To-Miss Spot On Route 1

Taste of Maine Restaurant in Woolwich offers a family-run atmosphere with the world's biggest lobster roll and a variety of seafood options.

One of our favorite things about Maine is how easy it is to find good food. There's no question that we've got the best seafood anywhere in the country. Even better is that if you drive down a small road towards the water, there's a good chance you'll find fresh lobster or a lobster shack to indulge your hunger. But, what we REALLY love is how many awesome options lie just at the side of the road. This spot is known for big meals, including the world's biggest version of a Maine specialty we all love. It's also got a great family-run atmosphere and these days you'll find a special 70-foot inflatable mascot sitting proudly on the roof!

The Taste of Maine Restaurant in Woolwich, owned and operated by the Gregory family since 1978, can be found right off of US 1 between Brunswick and Wiscasset.

The family owned restaurant can't be missed if you're driving from Portland to the Rockland and Camden areas.

At 70 feet long and 12 feet high, you'll first see Larry the Lobster sitting regally on the roof to celebrate the restaurant's 40th anniversary.

The fun, casual vibes continue when you walk inside.

The atmosphere is casual, with tons of Maine-themed elements that make visiting a true Vacationland experience.

If the weather is nice, head outside for a table overlooking Pleasant Cove in the Sasanoa River.

It doesn't get much more Maine than this!

That is, until you get to the lobster!

From freshly steamed lobster to lobster rolls, anyone with a love for this Maine crustacean is sure to find something they love.

Try the lobster grilled cheese, which is packed with meat if you're in the mood for something a bit different.

But...

If you REALLY want something special...

You're going to need to order the biggest lobster roll in the world!

This thing is absolutely stuffed with huge hunks of lobster meat, fresh lettuce and mayo.

People travel from hundreds of miles away just to experience the monstrosity of delicious.

But, if you pride yourself in being sensible (we can't imagine anyone like this!) you can enjoy the tried and true steamed mussels in garlic sauce.

The fried seafood section of the menu is extensive and includes oysters, clams, scallops, haddock and shrimp.

And those preferring the land to the sea can indulge in things like chicken Parmesan, ribeye steak and a number of salads and quinoa bowls.

Taste of Maine also offers a great space for events.

And, don't forget to load up on locally made Maine products before you leave.

Offering something for everyone, Taste of Maine is a wonderful stop along Route 1. And, if you get the huge lobster roller let us know!
