From breakfast through to dinner, Maine sandwich shops will keep you full all day. Check out this list, which is in no particular order, of some of our favorite sandwich purveyors in the state.

1. The Coffee Pot, Bangor: 652 Broadway

The original Coffee Pot sandwich has been on offer for 80 years and those who love it have been eating it their entire lives. You'll know it's the original if it includes green peppers, onions, tomatoes, seasonings, and toppings that include salami, ham, turkey, roast beef, tuna or egg salad, cheese and pickles.

2. Big Top Deli, Brunswick: 70 Maine Street

This circus-themed deli has a huge selection for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Try the Big Top's namesake sandwich (pictured) or branch out and try the highly recommended Trailblazer, Oliphant or

Egress.

3. Edna and Lucy's, Pownal: 407 Hallowell Rd

Just outside of Freeport sits Edna and Lucy's. This unassuming red shop at the side of Hallowell Road has a modest, but incredible list of sandwiches that change often. Stop in for daily specials and pick up their not-to-be-missed donuts as well.

Less of a sandwich shop and more of an actual restaurant, the famous fried haddock sandwich earned Thirsty Whale a spot on our list. Check it out if you love your fish perfectly fried with a side of incredible clam chowder.

5. Yancey's Restaurant, Calais: 332 North St

Those who know the correct way to pronounce the town of "Calais" also know that Yancey's is a great place for a lobster roll. Head in for a perfect bun piled high with meaty, lobster goodness.

If you like your sandwiches the way you like your Acadia mountain views (and by that, we mean HUGE) check out Big G's. You'll likely end up with lunch for two days. With that in mind, we recommend you also pick up one of their size-of-your-face whoopie pies so that you've got dessert for two days as well. Try the Reuben if you're looking to splash out. Or, go for the Richard Simmons if you're feeling a tad healthier.

7. Po'Boys & Pickles, Portland: 1124 Forest Ave

There are lots of sandwich options in Portland, but Po' Boys stands out among some great ones. Stop in and try a chicken fried pork po' boy with sambal honey and roasted peppers & onions. Or, choose just about anything on a biscuit and you can't go wrong.

8. Saco Island Deli, Saco: 110 Main St

Over 90% of the menu here is made in their own kitchen, making this the place to go if you're into fresh and local. The specials board changes daily and ranges from "The Stuffed Bird Panini" with antibiotic-free turkey breast and stuffing, on local Italian bread to the more recent "Vermonter," featuring cheese, apples and a delicious croissant.

9. The Shed BBQ, Rangeley: 2647 Main St

In the heart of the Rangeley Lakes Region is The Shed, serving up incredible BBQ sandwiches with even better sides. You can't go wrong with the pulled pork or beef brisket sandwiches.
