1. Rustica, Rockland

2. Enio's Eatery, South Portland
Enio's is a relative newcomer in a town where the food scene is becoming very notable. In addition to their every-night menu, which is already rich with handmade pastas and perfect stews. 3. The Cabin, Bath
The Cabin makes their own pizza dough, which is notable in a world where convenience (even among local businesses) often wins out. Get your pizza (or Italian sandwich) with a cold brew and you can't go wrong. Not interested in leaving the house? They deliver! Definitely check out the white garlic sauce - it's a hit! 4. Trattoria Athena, Brunswick
This small gem is popular among the theater crowd, but it's perfect for anyone looking for a delicious meal. Using farm fresh and local ingredients, Trattoria Athena cooks up a fusion of flavors that feel part Italian, part Mediterranean. Order the eggplant, tomato, mozzarella, prosciutto stack. 5. 22 Broad Street, Bethel
With great food and hearty portions, you definitely won't leave hungry after a meal here. The porterhouse gets great reviews, but people consistently mention the unique and exciting martini list. Try the Gardenia, which comes with muddles cucumber and pepper! They even have a regulation bocce court for warm days where you have nothing to do but be happy and maybe a teensy bit tipsy. 6. 40 Paper, Camden
40 Paper prides themselves on being a bit of a contradiction. They are intimate and cozy, but their bar is quite large and very popular. They specialize in Italian, but you'll find that their dishes take influence from Spain, France and the surrounding Mediterranean. Start with the stuffed baby artichokes, which are filled with fresh goat cheese & prosciutto. 7. Rosalie's Pizza, Bar Harbor
The good news is that the Crowe family's restaurant is just about the best place to grab the perfect slice with friends and family. Kids will love watching the experts throw their dough into the air and you'll appreciate the casual atmosphere that allows for good times and great beers. Bad news? They're seasonal which means you'll need to wait until tourist season for this one. But, do drop by when the doors open this spring! You'll be glad you did. 8. Massimo's Cucina Italiana, Bangor
It's probably no surprise that Massimo's is included on this list. Since 2007, this Rome-born chef and his wife, Anne Marie have been serving incredibly authentic food to Bangor and beyond. You may have to wait a while for a table, but when you're seated you'll love everything from the negronis to the variety of pasta dishes. Try the caprese, which comes as a unique warm dish with the perfect layer of melted mozzarella. They've also got a fresh bakery you absolutely must experience. 9. Slab, Portland
If you love pizza and love yourself, do yourself a favor and head to Slab. There were so many Portland options to include on this list, but this place was at the very top. Not your traditional Italian restaurant, Slab will serve you up some of the most incredible Sicilian street food with an incredible beer to match. The cozy vibe and live music feel more like a neighborhood bar than the best pizza in Portland. 10. Meanwhile in Belfast, Belfast
Meanwhile is a must for anyone passing nearby. You'll love the wood-fired pizza and the homemade pastas, but the happy atmosphere might be just as loveable. While some feel it's a bit pricey, many know that it's definitely worth it. The brunch gets rave reviews, as does the Farmer pizza. Give it a taste and let us know what you thought!
